Lawrence Gleason SIDNEY — Lawrence E. Gleason, 79, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Wilson Hospital. He was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Endicott, to Erwin R. and Ruth A. (Pulling) Gleason. He grew up and attended school in Cortland. Larry married Louise M. (Stephens) Gleason in April 1946. They were married 53 years. She preceded him in 1999. Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He retired in 1984 from the Bendix Corp. as a machinist after 43 years of dedicated service. He also worked many years ago part time at Mertz's Flying "A" station in Sidney and was a free-lance carpenter and painter. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post and the Sidney V.F.W. Larry enjoyed bowling and was especially fond of golf. He spent his winter months in Florida to pursue that passion and traveling throughout the country. Lawrence is survived by his three children, Cynthia Capaccio and son-in-law, Vincent, of Raphine, Va., Lawrence Gleason Jr. of Guilford, and Mary Anne Porter and son-in-law, Michael, of Walworth; five grandchildren, Vincent D. Capaccio and his wife, Lynda, of Harrisonburg, Va., Brian P. Gleason and Aaron S. Gleason, both of Putnam, Conn., April Fairweather of Rochester, and Kevin B. and his wife, Danielle Morris of Owego; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Jeanne D. (Gleason) Buhl of Cortland; and uncle, Quenten H. Pulling of Sidney. Also several loving relatives, friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Sidney Emergency Squad. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2002. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 29, 2002, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. Deacon Thomas Pritchard of Hartwick will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney. Arrangements by C.H. Landers Inc. of Sidney.
